Short Description
The prophet Muhammad presented Dawah to the tribe of Banu Shaybân, among other tribes, as he was commanded by Allah, Almighty. What happened upon that?.jpg)
When Allâh The Exalted Commanded His Prophet [peace be upon him] to present himself to the Arab tribes, he went out and did so accordingly. Let us cast a glance at a scene in which there was the following dialogue between him and the tribe of Banu Shaybân:
Abu Bakr [may Allâh be pleased with him] stepped forward, greeted them and asked: "Who are these people?" They replied: "[We are the tribe of] Shaybân ibn Tha‘labah." Abu Bakr turned to the Messenger of Allâh [peace be upon him] and said: "Let Lth they did not narrate it in hmy father and mother sacrifice their lives for you! They are from the noblest people." Among them there were Mafrûq ibn ‘Amr, Hâni’ ibn Qubaysah, al-Muthanna ibn Hârithah and An-Nu‘mân ibn Sharîk. Mafrûq was the closest among them all to Abu Bakr. He was the most eloquent and most handsome among them.
He had two plaits streaming down his chest. He was sitting nearest to Abu Bakr, who asked him: "How many are you?" Mafrûq said: "We are no more than one-thousand and one-thousand men is not a small number to be defeated." Abu Bakr asked: "How is your strength?" Mafrûq replied: “We strive our utmost, and every people should do their best.” Abu Bakr further asked: “Then, how do you manage the war between you and your enemy?” Mafrûq said:"We fight most fiercely when we are angry. We prefer horses over children and arms over food. Victory is from Allâh; He Alternates it between us and others."
Then he added: "It seems that you are the brother of Quraysh?" Abu Bakr said: "If you have heard that he is the Messenger of Allâh, then here he is." Mafrûq said: "We have heard that he makes a mention of that.” He turned his face toward the Messenger of Allâh [peace be upon him] and said: “To what do you call us, O brother of Quraysh?" The Messenger of Allâh [peace be upon him] moved forward toward them and Abu Bakr stood to shade him with his garment.
The Messenger of Allâh [peace be upon him] said: "I call you to testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allâh, with Whom there is no partner, and that I am the Slave and Messenger of Allâh; and I call you to shelter me and support me until I could convey the message of Allâh as He commanded me. Verily, the men of Quraysh have backed each other against Allâh The Almighty, belied His Messenger and dispensed with the truth for falsehood and Allâh Is Free of need and He Is Praiseworthy."
Mafrûq said: "To what else do you call, O brother of Quraysh?" The Messenger of Allâh [peace be upon him] recited (what means): {Say, "Come, I will recite what your Lord Has Prohibited to you. [He Commands] that you not associate anything with Him, and to parents, good treatment…} up to His saying: {This has He instructed you that you may become righteous."} [Al-An‘âm 151-153]
Mafrûq said: “To what else do you call, O brother of Quraysh? By Allâh, this is not the speech of the inhabitants of earth and, had it been of their speech, we would have known it.” The Messenger of Allâh [peace be upon him] recited (what means): {Indeed, Allâh orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.} [An-Nahl 90]
Mafrûq said: "By Allâh, you have called to noble morals and virtuous deeds. Sinful are those who belied you and backed each other against you." Then it was as if he wanted to share opinion with Hâni’ ibn Qubaysah, saying: "This is Hâni’, our chief and leader of our religion."
Hâni’ said: "I have heard your words, O brother of Quraysh. I think that to abandon our religion and follow yours based on only one meeting with neither a beginning nor an end features mistake in opinion, recklessness and lack of insight about the consequences. All mistake lies in haste. Also, we hate to conclude a covenant without the permission of our people. Therefore, you and we should go back and then we will decide what to do." Then, it was as if he wanted to share opinion with al-Muthanna ibn Hârithah and so he said: "This is al-Muthanna, our chief and leader in war."
al-Muthanna[1] said: "O brother of Quraysh, I have heard your words and my reply is the same as that of Hâni’ ibn Qubaysah concerning abandoning our religion and following yours." He added: "We live between two bodies of water: Yamâmah and as-Samâwah." The Messenger of Allâh [peace be upon him] said: "What are these two bodies of water?" He replied: "They are the rivers of Khosrau and the water of the Arabs. We pledged to Khosrau neither to innovate anything nor support an innovator. O brother of Quraysh, I see that the matter you call us to is hated by kings. Anyways, to do anything in the direction of the Arab territories, which may seem a sin in their sight, is pardonable and excusable. However, to do anything in the direction of the Persian territories, which may seem a sin in their sight, is unpardonable and inexcusable. If you want that we shelter and support you in the direction of the Arab territories, we are ready to do so."
The Messenger of Allâh [peace be upon him] replied: "You were not wrongful in your frank response. The religion of Allâh will not be supported except by those who pledge to support it from all sides.”
Then, the Messenger of Allâh [peace be upon him] said: “What do you say if you know that you shall remain for a while and then Allâh Will Make you the heirs of their lands, homes and women? Will you glorify Allâh and exalt Him?" An-Nu‘mân ibn Sharîk said: “By Allâh, do you pretend this O brother of Quraysh?” The Prophet [peace be upon him] recited (what means): {O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And one who invites to Allâh, by His permission, and an illuminating lamp.} [Al-Ahzâb 45-46][2]
