The fourth incident
In 620 A.H., something happened, and as accidental as it might appear, as thought by some, its timing was quite strange. A lot of calamities attacked the Ummah successively during those years, beside its deteriorating economic, political, military and even moral conditions. Most Muslim regions were attacked by locusts in huge swarms causing damage to large quantities of crops and greenery in Iraq, the Peninsula, Diyaar Bakr, Shaam, Persia and others. Was it accidental? Never, by Allaah! It is mentioned in the Book of Allaah The Almighty (what means): {And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allaah, We Would Have Opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We Seized them for what they were earning.} [Quran 7:96]
Those are well-established facts in the Book of Allaah the Almighty; if piety is entrenched in the Ummah, the gates of blessings will be opened upon it from the heaven and the earth; and if piety is taken away, as was the state of the Muslims at that time, they will be stricken by afflictions, adversities and crises.
Furthermore, Allaah the Almighty specified locusts as a means to prove His power over anyone who does not follow His method and law. Allaah the Almighty says about the people of Pharaoh (what means): {So We Sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood as distinct signs, but they were arrogant and were a criminal people.} [Quran 7:133]
Exalted be Allaah! We have all seen the swarms of locusts that attacked the Islamic world in great quantities a year or more ago. In my opinion, this is not accidental; it is just intended to draw the attention of the Muslims, and remind them of history, so that they would return to Allaah the Almighty, otherwise, the next attack of locusts would not be fleeting, in so much as long-lasting. We seek refuge with Allaah from His anger, and ask Him to enlighten for us the way to His established norms, and endow us with piety, sincerity and good deeds.
