Short Description
First subject of research: His Social conscience before Wahy
The very reason why Islam remains powerful is related to the fact that charity and relief is part and parcel of its doctrines, with our prophet SAWA being an outstanding example of helping those in distress. He was known for his truthfulness and honesty. We are going to review some of the manifestations to these good manners through the following:
First Testament: You are a comfort to those in distress
Second Testament: Helf el Fodool (Al Fodhool Alliance)
Third Testament: His Sponsorship of Ali Ibn Abu Taleb
First Testament: You are a comfort to those in distress
The prophet, SAWA, was favor loving by nature, feeling for people, their agonies and pains. For this very reason, Khadeeja the wife of the prophet, May Allah be pleased with her, and closest one to him, reminded him of these principles and philanthropic acts of him. Aisha the Mother of the Believers, May Allah be pleased with her, narrated the dialogue between the prophet, SAWA, and Khadeeja, May Allah be pleased with her, when the Wahy (Revelation) was first sent on him. She said" When he, SAWA, received revelation for the first time, he got home shivering with fear and said to Khadeeja Bint Khowailed May Allah be Pleased with her" Cover me, Cover me", and they covered him until he recovered from his fear. He told Khadeeja what happened and said to her "I felt worried about myself" Hearing this, Khadeeja said" No, Allah will not let you down, as you are kind to your relatives, you alleviate people's pains and extend relief to those in distress, hospitable to your guests and advocate of all that is right"[1]
Second Testament: Helf el Fodhool (Al Fodhool Alliance)
Solidarity and relief were deeply rooted in the innermost of the prophet, SAWA, since his early life. He was a staunch advocate of every call for rescuing anyone in distress or oppressed. So we find the prophet, SAWA, praise the Helf el Fodhool Alliance, an alliance which was formed on Quraish 's way home from the Fojjar war[2]. The reason was that a man from Zubaid area entered Mecca carrying goods. Al A's Ibn Wael bought these goods but he refused to give the man his due. The Zubaidy man sought help from elites of Quraish but they didn’t help him get the price of his good from Al A's Ibn Wael due to the latter's prestige among them. Sensing injustice, the man stood near Kaaba and raised his voice loudly, seeking help of Al Fehr tribe or any advocates of manliness.
Hearing this, Al Zubair Ibn Abdul Muttaleb said: This man must not be left helpless. So tribes of Bani Hashem and Zuhra and Taim Ibn Murrah met at Abdullah Ibn Jud'an's home; he offered them food. At this meeting, they vowed to establish an alliance which synchronized with Arab month of Dhul- Q'daha. They pledged to unite and side with any oppressed man until he regained his due from his oppressor. Then they walked to Al A's Ibn Wael and took by force the goods belonging the Zubaidy man and gave them back to him. Quraish named this newly established alliance "Helf el Fodhool", and praised the people who established it. [3]
The prophet, SAWA, witnessed this alliance which sided with the oppressed in the face of the oppressors, and extended aid to people in their agonies and pains, as he said" I joined the alliance of Motayebeen( another name of this alliance ) with my cousins in my childhood. If I was then told to break up this alliance, I would never have done so even if I was offered the world's most precious property.[4]
And he, SAWA, said in another hadith" I joined an alliance at Abdullah Ibn Gad'an's home which I preferred to any worldly thing. If I were invited to such an alliance in Islam, I would join in"
Third Testament: His Sponsorship of Ali Ibn Abu Taleb
The prophet, SAWA, sensed the crisis which his uncle Abu Taleb suffered, as Quraish as a whole then lived in hard times and Abu Taleb had so many children, so the Messenger of Allah, SAWA, headed to his uncle al Abbas, who was Bani Hashim's richest one, and said to him" Oh, Abbas! Your brother Abu Taleb has so many children and the people are suffering as you see, so let's go and alleviate his suffering; I sponsor a child and so do you."
Hearing this, Al Abbas said: Yes, let's. they both headed to Abu Taleb and said to him" we would like to alleviate your suffering until people get out of this economic crisis". "I would rather you left my son Akeel to help me and then you can take whomever you like", he said. So the Messenger of Allah, SAWA, sponsored Ali and Al Abbas sponsored Jaafar
That the prophet, SAWA, sponsored Ali is a shining example that he sensed the agonies and sufferings of his relatives and crises they passed.
