A Qur’an school teacher has developed a new robot to encourage young students to learn and perform their daily prayers, Euro News reported.
“I used to pray hastily but now I want to pray more slowly like this robot,” said one student.
The new robot was invented by 27-year-old Akbar Rezaie who teaches Qur’an at the Alborz elementary school in Varamin, near Tehran.
Out of personal interest and unrelated to his field of study, Akbar Rezaei attended private robotics classes and acquired the skill of assembling and developing customized humanoid robots.
He built the robot at home with basic tools and gave it the designation “Veldan”, a term mentioned in Qur’an meaning: “Youth of Heaven”.
Applying some mechanical modifications, Rezaei managed to let the robot perform praying movements, such as prostration.
Muslims pray five times a day, with each prayer made of a series of postures and movements, each set of which is called a rak‘ah.
The five prayer times are divided all through the day which starts with Fajr prayer at dawn.
