Sicilian Fleet Attacks Alex

26th of Zul Hejja, 569 AH/ July 28th, 1174 AD: The Sicilian fleet attacks the Egyptian city of Alexandria and manages to besiege it. However, this siege failed to continue thanks to the resistance there and the arrival of Salahuddin al Ayyoubi at the head of an army to defend Alexandria. This expedited the end of the siege especially after the Muslims inflicted a crushing defeat to the Sicilian fleet, forcing the fleet to flee the city.

 

Birth of Abdul-Rahman Fahmi

Year 1286 AH/ March 30th, 1870 AD: Birth of Egyptian politician and struggler Abdul Rahman Fahmi, one of the leaders of the 1919 revolution. He was known for organizing clandestine cells to fight the British occupation. He died on July 13th , 1946 .

   

Train Explosion Kills 259

27th of Zul Hejja, 1424 AH/ February 18th, 2004 AD: Death of 259 persons and injuring of over 300 others after a huge explosion took place in a number of compartments of a train laden with sulfur and petrol in central villages near Nisapur, north east of Iran. The explosion led to gross damage to these fire-ravaged villages.

 

Egyptians Conquer Acre

27th of Zul Hejja, 1247 AH/ May 27th, 1832 AD: The Egyptian army under Ahmed el Monokly conquers Acre after Egypt' s ruler Mohammed Ali declared war on Abdullah Pasha the Acre's wali under the pretext that he harbored 6000 of the Egyptians who escaped draft into the Egyptian army and under another pretext that he failed to send woods for the Egyptian fleet. Acre surrendered after six months of siege.

27th of Zul Hejja, 804 AH/ July 28th, 1402 AD: Mogul Emperor Temorlank defeats the Ottomans in Ankara Battle and takes captive of Sultan Yildrim Bayazid. It was the fiercest battle in the Middle Ages. It is also seen by historians as the most disastrous war in the Turkish history which led to the decline of the Ottoman state's conquests and caused its development to lag behind.

   

Ibn Hisham Assumes Power

27th of Zul Hejja,  206 AH/ May 23rd, 822 AD: Abdul Rahman Ibn el Hakam Ibn Hisham assumes power in Andalusia after the death of his father and when he was 31 years of age. He was born in Tulaitela in year 176 AH/ 782 AD. His love of Jihad earned him a morale which helped him encounter domestic rebellions against his state. He also made a number of urban achievements including the mosque and university in Ishbilia. He died in Rabeea I year 238 AD/ August 852 AD.

 

Elioon Massacre Committed

27th of Zul Hejja, 1367 AH/ October 30th, 1948 AD: The Zionist guerrillas perpetrate a massacre against Elioon Village in Palestine when they attacked the village, gathered its locals in a public square in the village and fired shots randomly at them from all directions. All the people without exception fell martyrs.

   

Iraq-Jordan Union Withdrawn

27th of Zul Hejja, 1377 AH/ July 15th, 1958 AD: Iraqi president Abdul Karim Qassem announces the withdrawal from the union which both the Iraqi and Jordanian royal regimes earlier formed on 14-2- 1958 under the name the Arab United State. Qassem didn’t take that decision until his movement succeeded in the coup after which he overthrew the royal regime in Iraq.

 

Lumumba Forms Government

27th of Zul Hejja, 1379 AH/ June 23rd 1960 AD: Congolese leader Patrice Lumumba forms the first national government in Congo after his party the National Movement won in the parliament election which was held under the Belgian occupation of Congo. But soon Lumumba was shot dead at the hands of the Belgians and his body was dissolved in the sulfur acid.

   

1st Aircraft Co. Opened

27th of Zul Hejja, 1424 AH/ February 18th, 2004 AD: Inauguration of the first aircraft manufacturing company in Jordan, which was also the first of its kind in the Middle East .The "Jordan Company for Manufacturing and Overhauling Aircrafts" is located at Queen Aliaa International Airport near the capital Amman. In the year 2004, the company managed to produce its first aircraft "SIMICH 2000."

 

Comoro Independence Recognized

The Comoro Islands is an Islamic, Arab, African state which is the recent member state in the Arab League. The history of the islands witness internal conflicts and turmoil which made it an easy prey to imperialists. Still do the islands witness some restlessness which reaches the extent that some voices there call for returning to be a French protectorate.

Meir Heads Israeli Cabinet

Ottomans Conquer Moscow

Year 978 AH/ May 24th, 1571 AD: The Ottomans conquer Moscow after a bloody battle with the Russians in which about 8000 Russian soldiers were killed. They also set the Kremlin ablaze with the help of the Crimean Khan by name of Dawlat Kiray who was awarded the title "Takht- Alan which means the "throne winner'.

The newspaper published its first issue on 24-4-1908 and its editor in chief was journalist and politician Ahmed Helmi.
