20th of Zul Hejja, 1331 AH/ November 29th, 1913, AD: Mohammed Moheb takes charge of the agriculture sector and wields his authority in areas of agricultural technical affairs and education. The Agricultural affairs were affiliated to the Ministry of Public Works and from that date on, an independent ministry were formed for agriculture and its affiliates.

 

Death of Makram Obaid

20th of Zul Hejja,Year 1380 AH/ June 5th, 1961 AD: Death of Coptic Egyptian patriotic leader Makram Obaid , one of the Wafd Party leaderships before he was dismembered in July 1942. Makram Obaid was born in 1889, and was awarded PhD in law. He memorized the Qu'ran although he was a Copt, and played significant roles in the political and national life in Egypt before the July Revolution in 1952.

The Ottoman state under army commander Yildirim Bayezid inflicts a crushing defeat on the Christian armies in Europe led by Hungarian King Sigmund I with as many as 130000 of Europe 's best trained soldiers. In the Battle of Nicopolis, the Ottomans managed to kill about 100000 Christian soldiers ,near River Danube , and took captive of about ten thousand others.

21st of Zul Hejja, 1426 AH/ January 21st, 2006 AD Death of Ibrahim Rugova the first president of Kosovo enclave, who died days before the UN started negotiations to determine whether the population of Kosovo who were mainly of Albanian ethnicity would gain the full independence which they aspired for. Rugova spearheaded the resistance against the Serbian hegemony as early as year 1989 when Slobodan Milosevic denied the enclave of the self rule which had long enjoyed.

   

Suharto Assumes Power

Suharto 's term in office lasted for thirty two years during which the country witnessed an economic prosperity but late in the nineties it sustained an a big economic crisis which led to ousting him from power, with the country starting a new era and a different system of rule as a result.

 

Death of Qotbul-Din Mawdud

21st of Zul Hejja, 565 AH/ September 7th, 1170 AD: Death of Qotb el Din Mawdood the son of Emad el Din Zinky the king of Mousel and Singar. He stood by his brother in many of his wars against the Crusaders and died at about forty years of age.

21st of Zul Hejja, 1425 AH/ January 31st, 2005 AD: Death of 15 British people in an attack on a British C -130 Hercules military aircraft of. The military wind of the 1920 Revolution Brigades claimed its responsibility for the attack. It is noted that this aircraft is used for airlifting soldiers and military outfits and it admits over 128 persons.

Russians Seize Azak

Non-government Wakf Abolished

23rd of Zul Hejja, 1371 AH/ September 14th, 1952 AD: Issuance of a law abolishing the non government wakf (charities) in Egypt. The new law banned the emerging of new charities, dissolved the ones which were at the time and redistributed them to their right beneficiaries. This led to the decline of the public's charitable role in the social life in Egypt.

   

Death of Ibrahim al Harby

23rd of Zul Hejja,  285 AH/ January 10th, 899 AD: Death of notable Fiqh scholar Ibrahim Ibn Isaac Ibn Ibrahim, alias Ibrahim al Harby, after the name of al Harbeya suburb in Baghdad. He was born in 198 AH/ 813 AD and was a disciple of several notable Muslim scholars , mainly Ahmed Ibn Hanbal, Thaalab, and Musaddad Ibn Mosarhad. After long years of devotion to religious sciences, he was chosen to teach students and knowledge seekers. He wrote many books, foremost among which are Manasek el Hajj and Sojood el Qu'ran. .

 

Birth of Mahmoud Al-Tanahy

23rd of Zul Hejja, 1353 AH/ March 29th, 1935 AD: Birth of scholar and man of letters Mahmoud Mohammed el Tanahy , one of the notable icons of science and knowledge in Egypt. He was born in al Menoufeya governorate, north of Egypt, educated in al Azhar and Faculty of Darul Oloom. After graduation, he worked as an investigative researcher until he became authority at this area of knowledge. He left his stamp on the Arabic cultural legacy with the ample amount of books which , thanks to him, have seen the light for the first time in Arabic literature.

   

Nylon-Made Toothbrush Used

23rd of Zul Hejja, 1356 AH/ February 24th, 1938 AD: The US uses the nylon material in making toothbrushes. It was the first time nylon had been used in industry. The invention of the toothbrush dates back to year 1498 in China when the Chinese emperor then used a toothbrush made of pigs' hair.
