Decree on Egypt Issued

9th of Thul Hejja Year 1279 AH/ May 28th, 1863 AD: Khedive Ismael manages to have a law issued by the Ottoman state which was named Decree on Egypt. The decree approved of the dynasty system in which the son could succeed his father in the rule of Egypt. This decree paved the way for Mohammed Tawfeek Pasha the son of Ismael to assume power in Egypt.

 

Birth of Khair Al-Din Al-Zarakly

9th of Thul Hejja Year 1310 AH/ June 25th , 1893 AD:
Birth of notable Muslim Scholar Khair el Din al Zarakly .
He was born in Beirut and educated in Damascus. He worked in the field of journalism for some time and then he worked as an official in the Saudi Political Corps . He wrote so many books, foremost among which are Al Alaam (Who is Who),

   

Yawm Al-Nahr (Slay Day)

10th of Thul Hejja Year 9 AH/ March 20th, 631 AD: Yawm al Nahr ( Slay Day) in which the pilgrims leave al Mozdalafa area for Mena before sunrise to perform the rite of offering sacrificed animals in abidance by what the Messenger SAWA, did. The pilgrims do such rites while saying prayers, Zikr and Talbeya( to remember Allah SWT). Then they head for Greater Akaba area to throw seven stones ( at the Satan as a gesture of cursing him),and offer the sacrificed animals. All the pilgrims do that except those who follow the way of Tamattu in Hajj who start their Hajj as early as the first of Thul Hejja. After that they have their hair cut or half cut, spinning around Kaaba and turning to spend the night in Mena.

 

Allegiance Sworn to Al-Dakhel

10th of Thul Hejja Year 138 AH/ May 18th , 756 AD: The people swore their allegiance to Abdul Rahman Ibn Muaweya Ibn Hesham, alias Abdul Rahman el Dakhel, the founder of the Umayyad state in Andalusia. It was the launching point from which the lights of the Islamic civilizations, science and urbanism started to dawn on Europe for centuries, with scholars and science seekers worldwide being inspired by the achievements of Muslim scholars throughout ages.

   

Death of Lotfy Al-Manfaluty

10th of Thul Hejja Year 1342 AH/ July 12th, 1924 AD: Death of noted Egyptian man of letters Mustafa Lotfy el Manfalooty. He was born in the Egyptian town of Manfaloot, Upper Egypt, in the year 1293 AH/ 1877 AD. He was awarded the title Pioneer of Rhetoric for his attractive style of writing. His writings and life career helped successive generations to develop better mannerism, language and conduct. Of his masterpieces are the Nazarat or Contemplations, Fi Sabeel el Tag or in search of the crown, Magdalene, Al Fadeela or the virtue, and the Abarat or tears.

1st Day of Tashriq

11th of Dhul-Hijjah 9 AH/ March 21st 631 AD: The first Day of Tashriq (Tashriq Days are the 11th, 12th, 13th days of Dhul-Hijjah) and the second Day of Bahr (second Slay Day). During this and the subsequent day, the Prophet (peace be upon him) spent the night at Mina, threw pebbles three times, throwing seven pebbles each time and supplicating Allah after throwing each couple of pebbles.

   

Salahud-Din Invades 'Azzaz

11th of Dhul-Hijjah 571 AH/ June 21st 1176 AD: Salahud-Din manages to invade the well-fortified 'Azzaz fortress. This was a step toward achieving the plan of establishing a Muslim unity. He could only invade it after a 37-day siege. He ascended the fortress after its surrender. The fortress importance lies in its being a base for the assembly of the Aleppo-Antioch Crusades allied forces.

Tanzania is 945,087 km² and has borders with 7 African countries. Its capital is Dar es Salaam.

Death of Ahmad Ismail

12th of Dhul-Hijjah 1394 AH/ December 27th 1974 AD: Death of Ahmad Ismail Ali. He was the Commander-in-Chief of Egypt's army and minister of war during the October War. He is best known for his planning of the attack across the Suez Canal that surprised Israel on October 6. He was made Army Chief of Staff in March 1969. He also he served as head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate.

 

Birth of Hussein Heikal

12th of Dhul-Hijjah 1305 AH/ August 20th 1888 AD: Birth of Mohammad Hussein Heikal (1888 – 1956). He was a modern journalist, novelist, and a well know political figure. Heikal finished his studies in law in Sorbonne University. Most notable works of his are 'Zaynab', a novel, 1914, The life of Egyptian and western personalities, 1929, The life of Muhammad, 1933, The Farouk (the decisive) Omar, 1945, and The truthful Abubakr.

   

India Declared Independent

The independent republic of India is officially born, after nearly 100 years of British rule. India has been running her own affairs since the actual transfer of power from British to Indian hands on 15 August 1947.

 

Marwan bin Muhammad Killed

13th of Dhul-Hijjah 1369 AH/ January 26th 1950 AD: Marwan bin Muhammad bin Marwan bin Al-Hakam, the last Umayyad caliph is killed. He exerted tremendous efforts to safeguard his state against disorder and revolutions. Although capable and efficient, he could not stop Abbasids advance from Khurasan. However, they could kill him and establish their dynasty.

   

The third Day of Tashriq

13th of Dhul-Hijjah 9 AH/ March 23st 631 AD: The third Day of Tashriq (Tashriq Days are the 11th, 12th, 13th days of Dhul-Hijjah) and the fourth Day of Nahr (fourth Slay Day). During this day, Hajjis who did not perform Ramy (throwing pebbles) should perform the three times of Ramy. Rites of Mina come to an end by the sunset of this day. After Ramy, Hajjis are no more permitted to stay at Mina and have to head for Makkah.
