I had never really been a particularly religious person, due to my somewhat scientific nature. I always insist on proof. These verses hit me like a sledgehammer. I became fearful of God, and wanted to worship him better.

My upbringing did not really include anything about God. I was christened, although I am not sure why, I would guess that this happened as it was the 'done thing' in my family. I have vague memories of going to Sunday school, and of course the religious education later at school.

Written by Islamstory Monday, 28 February 2011
I was born into a lower middle-class English family. My father came from a Catholic background, and my mother from a Protestant one. From a young age I believed in God, despite not being brought up with this belief, but still I got the feeling that what they were teaching in the Christian school I went to was not right, somehow.

I was looking for an escape route, too, from the isolating terms of a materialistic culture.  I wanted access to a spiritual dimension, but the conventional paths I had known as a boy were closed. Lady Evelyn Zeinab Cobbold

Written by Dr. Ragheb Elsergany Wednesday, 02 November 2011
It seems that I have always been a Muslim. This is not so strange when one remembers that Islam is the natural religion that if a child left to himself would develop. Indeed as a Western critic once described it. `Islam is the religion of common sense.'
