Eritrea gains independence after thirty years of struggle against the Ethiopian occupation. The Eritrean problem started when the UN approved of the annexation of Eritrea to the Ethiopian Crown in a federal union, a resolution which Emperor Haile Selassie capitalized on to achieve his Britain- backed expansionist ambitions.
