Muslims went back to their Islam and realized that going astray will lead them to loss and defeat. It was a war inflamed by religious reasons in the first place, as Christians joined in to fulfill their desire to get rid of Islam. “Never will the Jews or the Christians be satisfied with thee unless you follow their form of religion. Say: ‘The Guidance of Allah – that is the (only) Guidance.’ Were you to follow their desires after the knowledge which has reached you, then would you find neither Protector nor Helper against Allah.” [Qur’an 2:120].

“They ask you concerning fighting in the Prohibited Month. Say: ‘Fighting therein is a grave (offense); but graver is it in the sight of Allah to prevent access to the path of Allah, to deny Him, to prevent access to the Sacred Mosque, and drive out its members.’ Tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter. Nor will they cease fighting you until they turn you back from your faith if they can. And if any of you turn back from their faith and die in unbelief, their works will bear no fruit in this life and in the Hereafter; they will be companions of the Fire and will abide therein.” [Qur’an 2:217]

So it is clear that they (then and now) were fighting to eradicate Islam not to control money, oil, or people; the ultimate goal is to change Muslims and erase the religion. We see that today in their attempts to change the curriculum and to control the media as a sign of their hatred of the existence of Islam. That is why peace will never take place unless Muslims give up their belief.

Muslims got over their weakness and their fear of confrontation, they realized that trust and hope is only in Allah, no matter how powerful the enemy looks. “Think not of those who are slain in Allah’s way as dead. Nay, they live, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord”[ Qur’an 3:169].

“Little is it for enjoyment: their ultimate abode is Hell: what an evil bed (to lie on)!”[ Qur’an 3:197 ]

Ein Jalout proved to Muslims that Allah is capable of defeating their enemy. “If Allah do touch thee with hurt, there is none can remove it but He: if He do design some benefit for thee, there is none can keep back His favour: He causes it to reach whomsoever of His servants He pleases. And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Qur’an 10:107]

The Muslim nation regained its strength after sixty years of weakness, so much so that Holako, who settled in Tabreez, never thought of occupying the Middle East anymore.
Mongol power in Syria, Turkey and Palestine have disappeared; people felt safe; until one hundred and forty years later when another murderer called Taimour Link invaded the area and entered Halab and Damascus in 804 hijra.
This battle was the real beginning of the great Mamaleek Kingdom, which carried the responsibility of the nation for 270 years. The victory in Ein Jalout belonged purely to the Mamaleek who fought under Qotoz. That Kingdom was never as widespread as the Abassaid Kingdom, but Muslims regained the real meaning of the Muslim Caliph when the Ottomans united the nation later.
The unity between Egypt and Syria, which formed the strong coalition that deterred enemies and protected the whole area, proves that the area will not be safe until unity is reached between Egypt, Syria, Palestine and Lebanon.
Ayoubies disappeared after they were the direct reason for the weakness of the nation that lead to defeat. They did not take good care of the empire that Salah El-Deen (their great grandfather) left them.

The Mamaleek started taking the burden of liberating all Muslim cities from other Christian occupiers who controlled some of them since 491 hijra. Peppers started fighting against the Crusaders in Syria, Lebanon and Palestine until all were liberated, except for Aka, Sour, Saida, Tablos, Beirut, Tartous and Lazikia; they were all liberated by 690 hijra.
The value of Cairo was elevated after the victory, especially after the destruction of Baghdad and the fall of Qortoba, Cairo became a scientific center and a religious center; Al-Azhar became the most recognized Islamic university.
The strangest effect of all is that so many Mongols have come close to Islam and admired it, considering that they had a spiritual vacuum, which led many of them to Islam. One of their leaders, a direct cousin of Holako and a brother of Pato, the famous Mongol leader, embraced Islam. He took the name Baraka (meaning blessing) and took the leadership of his tribe (the golden tribe) in 652 hijra. That tribe separated from the Mongols and became a nucleus for Islam in the area north of the Qazwin Sea (in Russia). That was very strange for them to enter Islam while Muslims were still under Mongol control all over the Middle East, but after the victory of Ein Jalout the number of Mongols reverting to Islam increased drastically.

It might be worth mentioning that remaining to this day are some members of the Golden Tribe in the monarchies of Quazan, Qeram, Estra Khan, Nougay and Khawarizm.

Reasons for Victory in Ein Jalout

After mentioning the effects of that glorious victory, we have to talk about the reasons for it.

Belief: Strong belief that Allah is the cause for victory and that is why Qotoz had to build up that spiritual belief in the soldiers as well as the general public. When he screamed in the middle of the battle, he said: “Oh Islam”, not Oh Egypt or Oh Arab or Oh my Kingdom! His identity was very dear and that is the main reason for victory.
Unity: Divided nations are never victorious; Qotoz tried to unite Muslims to the best of his ability and succeeded to a great extent.
Reminding people of the reward for fighting in the cause of Allah: Qotoz realized that the army would never win unless they don’t mind dying in the cause of Allah, and that we will never enjoy peace unless we are strong enough to deter our enemies.
Good planning: Qotoz took great care in planning every little detail; even the uniforms that soldiers wore were well taken care of.
Good role model: Qotoz showed his people that he was not after money, power or control; he was in the middle of the battlefield just like his own soldiers, sacrificing his own life.

Knowing our enemies: Qotoz never thought of making peace with Mongols even with the huge gap between Muslims and Mongols capabilities, Qotoz had a clear vision knowing what Allah said: “O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: they are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily, Allah guides not a people unjust.” Qur’an 5:51
Igniting the hope into people: Despair does not leave space for hope, and despair is not one of the believer’s characters. “O my sons! Go ye and enquire about Joseph and his brother, and never give up hope of Allah’s soothing Mercy: truly no one despairs of Allah’s soothing Mercy, except those who have no faith.” Qur’an 12:87. Qotoz inspired the reminder in his people that victory was a given when people believe in Allah and trust in Him. “Allah has decreed: ‘It is I and My Messengers who must prevail’: for Allah is One full of strength, able to enforce His Will.” [Qur’an 58:21]

Shoura = real democracy: Qotoz sought his advisers opinion all the time, only to reach the best opinion, not to show others that what he thought was the right way. “It is part of the Mercy of Allah that you deal gently with them. Were you severe or harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about thee: so pass over (their faults), and ask for (Allah’s) forgiveness for them; and consult them in affairs (of moment). Then, when you have taken a decision, put thy trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).” [Qur’an 3:159].

Hiring trustworthy people: “Said one of the (damsels): ‘O my (dear) father! Engage him on wages; truly the best of men for thee to employ is the (man) who is strong and trusty’…[Qur’an 28:26]. That was the rule, he did not hire relatives or friends, he hired whom he thought would be able to take the burden and carry the responsibility. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that it is a sign of the hour to not be sincere. We saw how Qotoz gave the leadership to Peppers, who was not one of the Mamaleek belonging to his sect, only because he was able to take that responsibility.
Renouncing worldly pleasures: Leaders fail when they are keen on enjoying pleasures of this life. They gradually lose focus on their goal. That is why the Prophet (peace be upon him) warned us against that attitude, saying: “I worry about you from this life and the riches it will bring upon you.” We see how people in our story enjoyed this life and got used to the pleasures that it offered. They lost focus and soon they deserved the punishment of Allah.

On the other hand, we saw how Qotoz was disinterested in all of these temporary pleasures focusing on an important goal (to liberate Muslim land and get rid of the Mongols). He was granted his wish because he did not hesitate to expose his own life to fatal danger and sincerely wanted to die for Allah’s cause.
