Dozens die in Pakistan flooding

Aljazeera.net: Widespread flooding has killed at least 28 people in Pakistan after some rivers burst their banks during monsoon rains.
Streets were washed away in the northwest of the country and a newly constructed part of a dam in the Charsadda district collapsed, officials said on Thursday.
Al Jazeera's Kamal Hyder, reporting from Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, said that an emergency situation was developing in the country.
"The rain is not stopping, many bridges have been washed away and there are reports that 100-year records are being broken."
Footage on Pakistani TV showed two elderly men in the Peshawar area, clinging to a fence post as a raging torrent swept over their heads.
Our correspondent also reported that many people were trapped in the gushing rivers.
At least 10 people died near Peshawar when their homes collapsed, Adnan Khan, spokesman for the northwest province's Disaster Management Authority, said.
Dozens of people were still believed missing, so the overall death toll was expected to rise.
Monsoon season often leads to widespread flooding in Pakistan, which has many low-lying villages.
