17th of Zul Hejja,Year 1399 AH/ February 9th, 1967 AD: Chadli Bendjedid assumes power in Algeria succeeding President Houari Boumédienne. It was a defining moment in which a new era of rule started in Algeria away from the socialist ideology. This move also led to results foremost among which was the rise of Islamic powers in the country.
