Sheikh Ali Ibn Mohammed Ibn Ahmed el Bablawi becomes grand sheikh of Azhar. Sheikh Beblawi received his early and university education at Azhar, after graduation he was named director of the Book House where he introduced reforms and regulations which gave a facelift to the institution. Then he was named Head of Ashraaf in succession of Mohammed Tawfeek el Badry. He didn’t last long as grand sheikh of Azhar since his reformist efforts in Azhar were met with vehement rejection on the part of khedive Abbas Helmy.
