7th of Thul Hejja Year 1425 AH/ January 17th, 2005 AD: The Egyptian parliament discusses draft law of ten points to develop al Azhar, foremost among which was the election of the grand sheikh of Azhar through the scholars of the Islamic Research Council which has taken the place of former Senior Scholars Association.
