27th of Zul Hejja, 1385 AH/ April 17th, 1966 AD: Abdul Rahman Aref assumed the presidency in the republic of Iraq after the death of his brother Abdul Salaam Aref in an accident. Abdul Rahman Aref earlier took up the post of chief of staff when his brother was a president of the state.
